The epic stakes are balanced out by the multitude of very intimate, personal stories—ones that are elevated by writing that never falls into the fantasy trap of becoming stiff or stuffy.

Yoshimo is a bounty hunter rogue from Kara-Tur who is encountered in Irenicus' complex early in Shadows of Amn, and offers to join the party in order to increase their odds of escape and survival. If taken to Spellhold, where Irenicus and Imoen are incarcerated by the Cowled Wizards, Yoshimo reveals the terrible secret he had been hiding: he was under the thrall of Irenicus all along, and his purpose is to betray the player character as part of the mage's contingency plan.

Fresh-escaped from Hell, Karlach is finally free of the archdevil Zariel - but not from the infernal engine Zariel planted in her chest. With her first taste of freedom in ten years, Karlach is eager to find a fix for the engine that's burning hotter and hotter before it burns her out completely.

The game implements a flexible quest system with various approaches to resolving most quests. Players can eliminate almost any non-player character, regardless of their importance to the storyline, yet still continue to advance through the game.

But this is less of an issue when you consider the vast amount of other ways you can develop your character.

It always feels like you're still in control. By making choices that match your chosen background, and those of your companions, you can also get Inspiration points, letting you reroll and take another swing of the bat. Roleplaying, then, brings with it real rewards. 

It's the first choice you're faced with: should you remove or destroy the brain in Baldur's Gate 3? Unlike in DnD where you have to have a certain Ability Score to be able to swap classes, Baldur's Gate 3 does not have any restrictions and you can swap between Classes freely without losing any character levels.

Within that UI we also saw that spellcasting, like in the tabletop rules for Dungeons & Dragons, is based on level tiers.

They appear to be mobilized mercenary companies employed by the Iron Throne, a mysterious organization which is aggressively expanding its influence. The Iron Throne intends to gain control of the Sword Coast by diverting the iron supply to its own armies exclusively, and stockpiling all plundered iron at the only working iron mine in the region, deep in the Cloakwood forest. As the main character sabotages the mercenary installation in the Cloakwood mines, the pressure on Baldur's Gate is relieved enough for the city to be re-opened to outsiders, and the player character can confront the local Iron Throne leaders at their headquarters.

Baldur's Gate 3 is based on the 5th edition of the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing game. The game is based on the 5th-edition Dungeons & Dragons rule set, though it includes tweaks and modifications that Larian found necessary in adapting it to a video baldurs gate game game.

The mechanic is pleasingly tactile, and I've never felt so tense about making conversation choices before. It's brilliant and stressful and I'm pelo longer certain I can make decisions in my own life without dice now.
